Volker Küster, A Protestant Theology of Passion. Korean Minjung Theology Revisited, Leiden 2010.Inhalt
In Germany a New Political Theology emerged in the 1960s in the aftermath of the Nazi dictatorship and the holocaust. In the Third World Liberation Theologies were a response to oppression and poverty under military dictatorships or apartheid in Latin America, South Korea and South Africa in the 1970s and 1980s. Neo-conservative propaganda has declared the end of Liberation Theology, even though the gap between rich and poor still widens under the impact of globalization. A Theology of Justice is needed to address issues of guilt and reconciliation. In the seminar we will read classical texts of New Political Theology and Liberation Theologies contrapuntually and discuss how they contribute to the development of a Theology of Justice. As a guest we hope to welcome Prof. Dr. Kwan Jin Kwon, who was involved in the Korean democratization struggle in the 1980s and conducts a research project on concepts of justice in the Asian context.
